Cozy autumn home, no clutter: 5 weekend changes
It's dark by five and suddenly your place feels cold. The fix isn't buying out the seasonal aisle — it's a handful of changes you can finish in one weekend.
1. Swap textiles, not furniture
Pack away the linen and bring out wool, corduroy and chunky knits. Two new cushion covers in rust or olive plus one throw over the armrest beat a new sofa. Budget: around $60.
2. Light at eye level
Turn the ceiling light off in the evening. Use 2–3 small lamps with warm 2700K bulbs — one by the couch, one on a shelf, one near the window. The room instantly feels more intimate.
3. Forest colors, not ad colors
Skip the neon-orange pumpkins and go muted: terracotta, mustard, deep green, brown. Repeat your accent color three times in the room — cushion, vase, print — and it looks intentional.
4. Free nature
Branches, rose hips and dried grass from a walk, in a tall vase. Looks more expensive than any fake decor and costs nothing.
