Pet-Friendly Interiors That Don't Look Like a Kennel
A boucle sofa and a cat is a combination you get to try exactly once. After that you're just counting pulled loops. The good news: a home with animals can look great — you just decide differently.
Materials that actually survive
For upholstery you want a tight weave: microfiber, performance outdoor fabric, or real leather. Claws slide off because there's nothing to hook into. Boucle, chenille, linen and anything with a visible loop is out.
On the floor, luxury vinyl or tile beats soft wood. Oak at hardness 3 handles more than pine. And for rugs, use carpet tiles — when one gets ruined you replace one square, not the whole rug.
Plan for fur and smell up front
Pick your color around the animal, not the other way round. A black sofa with a white dog is a daily fight. Mid-grey, heathered or patterned fabric hides about 80% of what you'd otherwise vacuum every day.
Washable textiles are the gold standard. Removable covers, machine-washable throws, runners you can toss in at 40°C. Anything you can't wash smells within a year.
Test it before you buy
The expensive mistake is buying a sofa you hate a month later. Photograph the room and drop it into RoomFlip — the AI shows you how the space looks with a darker fabric, a different rug, or rearranged furniture. Five options in ten minutes, then you order.
And when you're sending apartment photos to an agent or a listing, FileTools compresses them without killing the quality, right in your browser.
